Personality:
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:Julia has a somewhat magnetic personality. She's easy to be around (when she has her shade) and as the move to Goddess powered forward, her selflessness knew no bounds. Once tragedy struck and she learned more about her own truths - not only about herself but her life and past lives - it was easier to find her footing. To ground herself in those around her, drawing from their support, and also then being her own beacon of help in the group's darkest hour.
Julia is very much like a dog with a bone. When she fixates on an issue, no matter how large, she will tirelessly work until she has a solution. To that end, she's made decisions that aren't always for the best, but she's the type of person that always looks at the greater good. And sometimes, when people don't fall in line with a solution she found, she doesn't always understand. For example, she saw a very black and white response to the Fairy Queen breaking her deal to save the fairies that were being escorted to their deaths. She wanted the Queen to break the deal, thereby breaking the collars holding them hostage, and save them all. Meanwhile, the Queen saw the gray in between, wanting to maintain the integrity of the word of the Fairies.
Another aspect of her undauntedness is her sheer fear of failure. She will work tirelessly to succeed or find an answer because failing isn't an option. She is something of a perfectionist and has always strived to be the best of the best. Rejection only makes her work harder until it sometimes hits a very unhealthy point.
There are different ways for someone to be broken. After the rejection from Brakebills and her quest for magic, she'd thought she'd broken when her obsession had only lead to failure. She'd checked herself into rehab to try and cure her apparent addiction to magic. And that led her down a path where she truly found her breaking point. After being sexually assaulted by Reynard the Fox, a trickster God who'd impersonated the Goddess they'd tried to summon - Persephone, also known as Our Lady Underground. She'd been so incredibly unable to deal with it, she'd had Marina - a fellow hedge witch - put a block on her memories. But, after complications with that being removed and then magic as a whole being lost due to Quentin killing a God, her journey to rebuild couldn't start yet.
After getting an abortion, her shade was removed from her body as a complication of the procedure due to having been impregnated by a God. Shadeless, she'd been a sociopathic monster - completely selfish and uncaring. She'd still held a big picture in her sights, but it was her desire to destroy Reynard and she was willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to reach that goal. Including her best friend, Quentin. Once her shade was restored, she was truly able to begin on her path of healing, working towards finding peace with the broken part of her.
As previously mentioned, Julia has a tendency to obsess when she sets her sights on something. One of those things can sometimes be avenging something she views as a wrongdoing, especially when she was shadeless. It can be anything from rectifying her rejection from Brakebills to trying to kill Reynard. She kidnaps the Beast in order to have him help her kill Reynard because she viewed the Beast as the lesser of two evils and a useful resource, even though killing the Beast had been the goal everyone else had been working towards tirelessly. She was willing to sacrifice the good of the many in that moment for her own personal needs. Something she didn't often do and something that drove her to be better and focus on the group rather than herself.
With her shade restored, that vengeance didn't lie dormant. She still wanted justice for what was done to her, but she sought that justice in making sure Reynard would never have a happy ending. That he would have to live in his misery until the end of time.
While the way she acquired her divine powers was horrific, what she did with them was the absolute opposite. It's stated not only by Persephone, but demonstrated by Julia that what she does with the spark of power she was given through the 'god-touch' and the later amplification from Persephone is astounding. She took the power and nurtured it until she developed into a full Goddess. Her selflessness and demonstrated caring for others feeds her divine potential and solidifies what Persephone saw even when Julia had her own doubts.
Part of her divine self and what makes her such a success at fully unlocking her full potential is the base selflessness she'd had all along. Once she'd found her path again after losing it and herself, her having magic while others were without helped it seem like a no brainer to help everyone else while she could once she got out of her own way. She willingly gave small bumps of power when she could or healed injuries on varying scales, including restoring Dean Fogg's vision after the Beast had blinded him. She performs the ultimate act of sacrifice by giving up her newly acquired Goddess powers to reform the keys after Alice destroys the original ones they'd worked so hard to find. And she does it without so much as a second thought - quite the opposite from where she'd started on her journey with magic in this timeline.gif credit
MAGICIAN ABILITIES
She's able to create invisible fire, teleport objects, create mini thunderclouds, glamour ID cards, and was able to perform reverse entropy (the final step to becoming a fully trained Hedge Witch - meaning she was able to turn back time slightly.) When working with other Magicians and Hedge Witches, she's able to perform more complex spells - including summoning a god.
Her discipline is Knowledge, specializing in Meta-Composition. She wasn't sorted into this discipline specifically in the current timeline, although Dean Fogg does confirm that it still rings true. She has a strong comprehension of obscure magic and that knowledge allowed her to create the Quarterback, a magical device that used Horomancy to rewind time 15 seconds over a small area.
The Horomancy does also expand with her divine powers, she is able to freeze time for a short period. She is also able to reverse it in extreme situations - for example, she was able to freeze time when Skye began dying due to her collar reacting to her magic and then reverse it to save her. Additionally, Julia later freezes Reynard the Fox when he attempts to kill her with the god-killing bullet she and Kady had made specifically to kill him.
Julia is familiar with Battle Magic and is able to successfully cast the Rhinemann Ultra against The Beast in the 23rd timeline without overwhelming herself with the power needed.
DIVINE ABILITIES
When magic was turned off, Julia was still able to use magic. This was specifically Divine Magic - Reynard's spark given to her by Persephone after Persephone intervened and kept her from killing her attacker. With time and practice, she was able to develop her spark into the same level of power as a Master Magician, which allowed her to wield the Leo Blade. With Divine magic, she's also able to perform spells without the use of her hands.
At her current canon point, she is on her way to becoming a full-fledged goddess, known as "Our Lady of the Tree". She is immortal and retains that even after she sacrifices her divine powers.
She has the ability of "knowing" when things occur around the world, able to hear the prayers of others and when she's needed somewhere. Through this, she is also able to know someone's feelings from a great distance and channeling those as a call for her help as well.
With the divine magic, she's able to use her powers to heal people. She heals Kady when she overdoses, fixes Quentin's headache, heals Marina's scars, migraines, and cigarette addiction in an alternate timeline, and she heals Dean Fogg's eyes when he was blind.
Julia was also able to restore the forest of the Sentient Trees in Fillory in moments, which propels her into her full godhood and is the reason for her name.
Traveling: Julia was able to teleport herself to the Muntjac after hearing Josh Hoberman's prayer. She teleported to Reynard the Fox's apartment with Kady and Penny after discovering his location, and later appeared in Castle Blackspire to help her friends.
Power Bestowal: Julia has shown the ability to gift short-term magic to others. Julia was able to give Quentin enough magic to cast a single spell as he was preparing to journey to Castle Blackspire.
NERFING
As she currently has game breaking powers, I fully support her being nerfed. Removing her ability to just be able to travel and hear people's prayers would be totally fair. I would like her to retain her ability to heal on a smaller scale. It would be nice for her to be able to give small power boosts in emergent situations related to events with mod approval. Returning her to mostly Magician abilities would be fine and removing her ability to rewind time by small increments unless ok'ed by the Mods would be totally fine. Also open to other nerfing as needed.
